Privacy, terms and refunds
The short version: children never have accounts, there are no ads or trackers, and the only thing we keep about a grown-up is what a membership or a reply to your message needs.
What we collect, and what we never do
- Children never have accounts. A child opens a story and plays. No profile is created in their name, and nothing a child does leaves the screen.
- The optional "say it" recorder lives only in that moment on that device: it is never saved, never uploaded, and it is gone when the page closes.
- No ads, no analytics, no trackers. There is no advertising or tracking tool on any page. The site talks to three outside services, and only for these jobs: Supabase (grown-up sign-in), Stripe (payments) and jsDelivr (one code library).
- Grown-up sign-in: your email address only. You sign in with a one-time code, so there is no password to store. We use the email to tie your membership to you and to write to you about your account, never for marketing.
- Payments: Stripe handles your card; we never see or store it. We keep your Stripe customer id, your plan and its status (active, canceled) so the stories you paid for open.
- The "Work with Elliott" form stores your name, email, organization and message (with Netlify, our host) only so Elliott can reply.
- In your own browser we keep your language choice, a short-lived copy of your membership status, and the Little Lab sticker count. None of that is sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes it.
- We never sell or share data. No part of how we make money depends on it.
Deleting your account. Write to Elliott from the form on the home page and say "delete my account": we remove your email and your membership record. Invoices that tax law requires stay with Stripe for as long as the law asks. Form messages are deleted once answered.
If a promise on this page is ever not true, that is a mistake, and we want to hear about it.
Membership terms
- What you get. The Family membership ($4.99 a month or $36 a year) opens every comic in the Lab and all 26 Little Lab letters. The Classroom plan ($99 a year per classroom) includes the same, projector-ready. Six stories and letters A–F are free forever, with no account.
- Renewal and cancellation. Membership renews on its own (monthly or yearly) until you cancel. Cancel anytime from "Your account → Manage billing"; you keep access through the period you paid for.
- Refunds. Write to Elliott within 30 days of your first payment and he refunds it in full, no form and no reason needed. After 30 days on an annual plan, ask and we prorate the unused months.
- Use. The stories are for your family or your classroom. They may not be copied, resold or published elsewhere. The teacher guides (PDF) may be printed and shared with the families in your classroom.
- What it is not. This is a practice tool for rehearsing skills, not therapy, counseling, or a clinical service.
- Changes. If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them; changes never apply to a period you already paid for.
